My son, too, was just too darn cute for his own good early on--now 
he's handsome--and charming as the day is long. We were starting to 
notice that he was using charm to get himself out of trouble and had 
a talk about it. You know,  you can only get so far on charm, you'd 
best be prepared to rely on good substance and character to get you 
through bad situations, that sort of thing. We used examples of 
people who only got so far on charm before it wore out their welcome 
and the lot--but we applaud him when his manners are charming or he 
does something especially sweet to a stranger when we're out, or a 
guest in our home.
