wait, wait - i've read this argument before. in a book which, on this list, 
i assume everyone esle as read too.

on barrayar, in the time of isolation, they protected the baby by locking 
down the whole woman.  on beta, they did it by locking down the gonads.

i'll take beta, thanks.  i am eternally grateful that i was born after hte 
time women were no longer considered a protected commodity to be handed from 
father to son-in-law, and back to ehr father if hubby died.
