i love settings that are clearly real.  wish i could write them (MyNovel[tm] 
has really really lousy settings, i think, although my beta readers don't 
mind)

also see the grim fairy tales (says the little girl who red -all- the color 
fairy books in two weeks, one summer).  the big black forests wehre goblins 
live were a staple of german country side.  also a staple of my own 
grandfather's big brown bear story :) , and how he and his brothers used to 
ssccaarree each other by staying out in the forest.

also see baba yaga and her cottage on chicken legs.  do people at beaches, 
or other places where cottages are indeed on stilts, scare each other with 
baba yaga stories?  and i suppose the cottages really -shift- over time as 
the ground beneath moves a little at a time. although they don't 
actually -run- after bad little children.
