It was both a musical play AND I think a movie, starring Zero Mostel.   The 
score should be readily available, and I expect that there is a commercial 
DVD around.  The basis really is ancient, some play by a Roman playwright, I 
seem to recall someone saying right here in this very forum.  The characters 
are all stock characters--the wily manipulative slave, the heroic military 
man, etc. etc. etc. --archetyupical Roman comedy.
