Broadway musical. elements of classic Roman farce, Sondheim music
(most of which was cut from the movie). Zero Mostel originated the
main role (Pseudolus) after Phil Silvers and Milton Berle turned it
down. Every actor who has opened a run of the show on Broadway has
won a Tony for it.
The song "Comedy Tonight" was added to the show late, and may be one
of the reasons the show became a hit.
