I remember bits of that essay, yes. Still useful, that.

The Chapter 1 scene... hm. Perhaps a bit more talky than gets _me_ 
hottest -- talking distracts me from feeling, personally -- but it
certainly wasn't fatal to me _enjoying_ the scene on a more intellectual
level.

Actually, upon re-reads, that scene may well grow on me. Poor Dag. Rather
at someone else's mercy, considering his arms at the time.
