Spotted Dick is a traditional English recipe (especially characteristic of 1950's schools). It goes along with jam roly-poly and other nefarious items.

ANd every joke that could be made about it by adolescent schoolboys has been made.....

 Has anyone mentioned Terry Pratchett?  He has Nanny Ogg's cookbook. 
 Available on Amazon.   Several unusual items, or at least "alternative" 
 ways to prepare dishes.  Or so I am told.  I don't know how useful it 
 would be, but I just ordered it for myself, for the entertainment value. 
   I plan on fixing the Spotted Dick.  Should be a conversation starter.
