The sense I got from the father is (an eerily familiar) hands off
approach not necessarily in the Calvin and Hobbes' father line of "it
builds Character, but as a presence so huge and supportive at your back
he gives you the courage to keep stepping forward. He's not really warm
cause he can't be, but that doesn't diminish his capacity for love.
Maybe I'm projecting.
