Me too, honestly.

I also pay attention to the recs of people I like and trust and
buy books written by people I know who have made a first sale,
particularly if I like their fics and know they're not prone to
writing the sort of thing I hate.

Aside from that, things I look for:

* homoerotic content (hey, it's My Thing)

* female characters who have conversations with each other that
are not about men (the Bechdel test)

There is also a list of things I want to avoid:

* loads of sexual violence

* really annoying fantasy religions that are clearly there to
make a statement about some real-world religion without actually
saying so

* heroes and heroines with anachronistic belief systems that seem
to be unique to them and are not supported by society, but
nonetheless only bad people object to them

* being told in no uncertain terms who to like and who not to

* homophobia and sexism and racism being used for the angst
factor in worlds that are not like our own and don't really have
a reason for them

And some other stuff.
