My first real SF or non-children's fantasy was _The Calibrated
Alligator_ an Asimov collection. I can't remember if all the stories
were his, or if he just got editorial credit. Before that, I read some
children's fantasy and fairy tales. The most notable children's book
that qualifies as SF was _A Wrinkle In Time_, by L'Engle. After Asimov
though, I was hooked, as it led straight to the Heinlein juveniles, and
quickly thereafter I was reading the Foundation, Niven (crazy, man,
crazy!) and Tolkien. Niven blew my mind, it was the first time I saw
the s-word or the f-word in print, read graphic sex, and I learned a lot
about astronomy and astrophysics from him.
