what fun, to have a section of books with your initials!
i actually don't remember what i read 'first'. i only remember that
suddenly reading stopped being torturously figuring out which word on the
page was supposed to be next, and a whole new multiverse opened up.
i do remember looking for danny dunn and miss pickerel when my 'big'
sister - all of eleven years old - shepereded the family kids on a weekly
trip to the library. all four of us used to check out as many books as we
were allowed to.* any one who didn't fill her or his quota would be forced,
i say forced! to check out books for someone else.
and now people say that kids must not ever, no never, be left at the library
alone. the molester in the closet will jump out! obviously only parents
who don't love/neglect/should never have kids let their kids go to the
library alone! poor kids, i say.
ziviya, nostalgic
*the youngest held her books in her lap in the stroller, and the rest of us
hooked a bag over the handle-bar. youngest was not allowed to stand up
until everyone had un-hooked their bags, or the whole thing would tip :)
