If you buy and drink beer in huge quantities and are not in a college
fraternity, you're a Chav.

P.S. I have been pointing to a set of fashion quirks that seem Chav-ish out
here in Albuquerque, such as plucked eyebrows painted back in and certain
sorts of eye makeup and lipliner. Well, yesterday at a Mexican restaurant
which I think is probably owned by actual Mexican immigrants rather than New
Mexicans, I saw those quirks put into context and done right and realized
what the goal was.

The server had the dark lbrown lipliner and lighter brown lip coloring, the
elongated lined eyes, the eyebrows, and the tight high on the head hairdo
the UK contingent here has been calling a Croydon Facelift and it actually
looked very nice, col and well put together, not Chav-ish at all but rather
a different cultural style.

Then I saw her in profile and realized what the look was aimed at
reproducing - it was straight off an Aztec or Mayan or Incan carving.

What I had been seeing earlier was details of this look taken out of context
and reproduced by people who either didn't get the big picture or didn't
want it (too foreign? Wrong political statement?)

I've been in the Southwest for 40 years and this was the first time I
understood that particular style.
