[LMB] OT: Voting was all-purpose open letter

On the whole matter of voting, I'm very much against the notion of mandatory voting. On the idea of voting for the "least bad" candidate, here's a link to my experiences in the belly of the voting machine: http://www.bolditalic.com/quotulatiousness_archive/004044.html

The moral is, even if you _do_ vote for the least bad candidate (in your estimation) there's still no guarantee that your vote will ever be counted.

Now think about voting in less free and democratic societies (aside from the usual suspects -- USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and western Europe).

Regards,
Nicholas
