> Don't underestimate the skills of the little femme powderpuff, unless you
have a taste for takeout food and are comfortable in guy-type conditions at
home, or have a housekeeper, and take torn hems to the tailor or (like one
woman of my acquaintance) uses the stapler on them. (She thinks hand sewing
is an art as arcane as flint-knapping. It probably is these days.)
 Pat, reared to those skills

huh. never thought of myself as a powder-puff. but, when i was a teen and
ripped my hems, my mom pointed me to the needle and thread. the seamstress
was for fancy clothing needing repairs, not basic skirt/shirt rips.
as for food - when i got married, my husband was a better cook then me.
i've learned since then, and my food is generally better htan take-out.
also cheaper, which is a bonus :)

unfortunately, the computer programming company wehre i worked went out of
business about the same time i got married, and i couln't find a new job
before maternity clothing convinced the hiring folks that anyone else would
be better :(
after a few years of going crazy at home with infants and toddlers, i have
fallen into the traditional female job of teaching, which i always swore i'd
never do.

ziviya, whose crystal ball never predicted this future.
