That's true.  I sometimes let my own imagination run ahead of me.  In 
the Real World, we will have cloned organs and artificial organs within 
a hundred years; in the Vorkoverse, we must stick to the time frame of 
the canonical text.  Maybe there is some technical reason they can't 
grow a heart in a week.  Perhaps it is an ethical consideration.  Maybe 
they could at one point, and then "the Dark Ages" intervened, and they 
lost the technology.
