You're correct, of course.  There is a difference between what they 
"ought" to be able to do, and what they can do.  I am indulging in 
wishful thinking.  I expect that if Lois wrote those stories today, she 
would have to come up with some other excuse for why it took so long, 
given what we now know may be possible.
