He has an amazingly beautiful voice. And he is indubitably beautiful visually. Which makes it all
the more disappointing (at least in series 1) that Mohinder's intelligence doesn't seem to be
allied with any kind of street smarts or tactical skill. I'd like to see some HRG-style ingenuity
from him.
I started out thinking Mohinder would be the guy I'd go for in that show, because of his voice,
beauty and brains. Not so. By 3/4 of the way through season 1 (vol. one) I was finding him
annoyingly clueless, which just goes to show that I'm more of an intelligence-junkie (for a
certain kind of intelligence) than a lover of a pretty face. I had thought that when it comes to
attractiveness, a beautiful voice would trump everything, but it seems - not so.
Still... season 2 has started out promisingly, where Mohinder is concerned, and I do hope and
believe the man is capable of mastering a steep learning curve when it comes to guile.
Actually, your comments highlight something that often bothers me in fiction. I particularly love
super-intelligent characters. But I equally hate super-intelligent characters who are depicted as
clueless with other people, or totally impractical. Narrowly-focussed intelligence can be worse
than stupidity.
An example: Brainiac 5 of the Legion of Super-Heroes, who, when written in a certain way, is one
of my favourite most-sexy type superheroes. Written another way - as cold and compassionless - I
dislike the character intensely.
Yes... so much is in the writing. It hardly matters who draws him.
namaste,
Elizabeth
