The thing about Justin, to me, is that he doesn't follow the same rules as 
everyone else in his world.  He's working off his *own* rules.  And he 
really doesn't care what other people may think of him.  That's where his 
power comes from.

But Vidal hasn't got his own set of rules, I don't think.  He's just 
rebelling.  And that's why he hasn't the power his father has.

(Can't really comment on Damerel atm; it's been too long since I read 
"Venetia"...though I was just thinking today that it was about time I 
re-read that one.)
