Justin frightened me, quite frankly. It was the
simple fact that he would do whatever it took to get
what he wanted. Leonie only got to enter Society,
learn of her parentage and flee to the Cure because he
chose that she should. He decided upon meeting her
that Mary would be suitable for Vidal, and demanded
she stand still long enough that he caught up with
her, and then made sure she was accepted by Society.
With the other Heyer heroes you cite, they are
prepared to acknowledge Society's rules, which means
the girls can run if they need to. There's no sense
that the man in question will lock them up in a tower
if that's what it takes to get them to stay where he
puts them. (Him *wanting* to, that's a different
question altogether.) I do get the sense that Justin
WOULD do that to Leonie if he felt it necessary.
