You are reading a Meredith Gentry book. It is is a different universe 
entirely than the Anita Blake books.

Hint regarding books--which alas does NOT always work... check the dust 
jacket flaps in hardcovers, the last few pages of the book if paperback for 
comments about other books by the author, and the "other books by this 
writer" page within the first few pages of the book, to try to see if the 
books might be part of a series.
