I think his comment pertains to drilling oil wells on the flanks
of salt domes (from the sentence before)--much higher probability
of success. Much.
I remember the incident of the disappearing lake--being a
geologist (though never in the oil patch) I saw the write-ups
in Geotimes. Pretty amazing that everyone got out of the mine!
