In Shards Ges refers to waiting eighteen years for his revenge, so we can
guess they broke up eighteen years ago and would have probably been together
at age 25.

I did a bit of looking around, and there's a reference in The Borders of 
Infinity
(the short story) to the Cetagandan attack on Barrayar lasting twenty years.
That would certainly put Aral's birth at around the end of the Cetagandan 
war.

I look forward to reading the fic. The world always needs more Aral fanfic!
