Not as bad as my delay in proffering thanks ;-) I'm still catching up
on the huge backlog caused by going away on holiday...

My personal favourite was the matched pair of Victoria Walker books,
"The Winter of Enchantment" and "The House Called Hadlowes", which
have a bit of history behind them in which I was marginally involved.
The books were originally printed about 30 years ago, and went out of
print. They were reprinted recently after a well-publicised campaign
involving such luminaries as Neil Gaiman and Garth Nix. I posted a
request for information to rec.arts.books.childrens back in April 2000
and Garth Nix replied with some helpful information: at this point he
stated that he was "encouraging a publisher". It must have been a slow
process because the books were only published this year.
I would encourage people who are interested in books for children to
investigate the publishers, Fidra Books <http://fidrabooks.co.uk/>
They specialise in "reprinting children's books that we feel are
unfairly neglected and deserve to be back in print" and this includes
some classic books which would otherwise have disappeared.
Thank you again for the birthday wishes. Now, back to that overstuffed
inbox...;-)
