Some of those libraries look extremely distracting.  I think it would be 
hard to get much done in a library with paintings all over the ceiling, 
and/or gold leaf on every possible surface!

The Wren Library (Trinity College, Cambridge) reminds me of Diana Wynne 
Jones' description of the library in the magical university in "The Year of 
the Griffin".
