Sometimes Google is more useful than a dictionary.  If you put some words
into the search field and hit enter, Google will make a search but at the
top will be a suggestion, in this case:

Did you mean: tolkien  

Keeping my eye open for that has often helped my searches.

I didn't learn to spell in college - they didn't teach it there (though they
imposed penalties for getting it wrong).  I hated spelling in grade and
middle school and was a terrible speller.

When I started writing stuff I found that it stops the reader when they hit
a misspelled word and have to puzzle it out.  So, I decided to learn to
spell.

Now, Microsoft Word is my best spelling teacher.  When it corrects me, I
just pause and repeat the correct spelling a half-dozen times.  I'm finally
learning to spell decently.
