Thank you, I had a lovely birthday - started with a cocktail, ended with
chocolate birthday cake and in between there was a terrific dinner with
most of my family.
My birthday came at the end of a fortnight's holiday. We started in
York, at my brother's, travelled on to Salisbury and Bath and returned
to York.
My parents were with us, the weather was glorious and we visited lots of
lovely places.
We broke our journey in Coventry for a visit to the Cathedral(s) which
are well worth a pilgrimage no matter which religion, if any, you are.
(should have brought To Say Nothing of The Dog)
Sat in the grounds around Salisbury Cathedral and just soaked in the
view and the peace.
Had a picnic lunch at Stonehenge.
Took afternoon tea at the Pump Room in Bath (and reread Persuasion,
though not at the same time).
I spent most of my time in Bath trying to remember whether a place had
been mentioned by Jane Austen or Georgette Heyer. Though Royal Terrace
was pure Oliver (Twist).
Altogether a great fortnight with unexpectedly great weather. We came
home to a wet grey autumn and I promptly went down with a bad dose of
sloth hence my late reply.
Thanks again,
Elizabeth
