the only reason ilike book genre is, the library lumps them in a group and i
can pick up some intrestin authors with the same last initial as my current
'look for her next book'.
i don't much like romance, as it exists on today's bookshelves. if anyone
told me this was a paranormal romance, i'd run inthe other direction. the
'weather prediction/control' (rachel caine i think) series with genies was
awful. most paranormal crossovers are awful, with weak heroines and heroes
with all their brains in their biceps. given the sheer volume of romance
and paranormal romance books, i may well be in the minority here, so nobody
who likes flame me please?
one almost good crossover: the anita blake series started off with lots of
action, but in one not-so-recent book it took 2 chapters* between her
getting out of hte shower, wrapped in a towel, to her boyfriend(s) in not
much more, 2 chapters of angst before anything happened. her books dropped
from yay action-romance, reserve as soon as published, to pick up if i
notice it laying on the shelf.
i have high expectation that, if lois continues for eleven books, they will
maintain her high standard.
hmmm. the vorkosigan books, over ten books, switched from high space opera
to comedy of manners/romance. so maybe the fawn-dag thing will wander
around genres, too. but i expet angst will be kept on a short leash.
ziviya
* so i counted chapters. at least i didn't count pages.
