The Grand Sophy's aunt and uncle?  I remember one scene where the aunt  is 
trying to convince the cousin to accept a suitor, and shuts off using her  
reminiscence about her own engagement to the girl's father as an example.   Also, 
his son has had to take over managing the family finances.
