fawn is a real mix of competance and ignorance.  she can do any task around 
the house, and socially she's the queen bee, so that argues for being a 
little older - children may be competent, but tend to be socially shy.  (or 
maybe just around this list?  trying to remember other teens...)

but when it comes to topics 'not in front of hte children!' she's completely 
ignorant.  maybe that's a result of being the only girl-child, and not 
having 'locker room talks' with girl cousins or anything.  (wait, didn't we 
have this thread a few chapters back?)

as to being 'defiant' about saying her age, that goes back to the farm wife 
treating her as a child.  baby of the family is not always 'baby'!  my aunt 
who is a grandmother already gets a little frustrated when her 
sisters -still- treat her as the little sister sometimes.  i'd say she's 
eighteen, and assuming people will take a bit off ehr age for shortness, so 
she pads it a bit.
