I agree; I don't see any point to abdication, which would be as much a denial of his duty late in
life as early in life.  With Gregor - he might kill himself, but he'd never turn his back on his
duty.  He would, however, pick good advisors. (Some of them probably named Vorkosigan.)

As for his reign - I see it as a time of rebuilding and recovery for Barrayar, and taking its
place in an intergalactic diplomatic community - respected not for its military might but for its
sense of justice and honour.

I also, for reasons I'll have to think through, don't see it as a long reign.  But a good one.
