1) Illyan's example...maybe G. will get blown out of the job somehow
2) The fiery sword of Aral's example:
a) who's made it blindlingly clear that a substantial part of the job is 
giving way, and not just the act of passage/abdication, but the  
exquisitely demanding years of husbandry.  Anyone with wit who's 
parented know the realization that kids aren't taught, they're tricked 
into learning/responsibility
b) his own experience with Running Away From It All (and his sense of duty):
    i) there's got to be a way that's kinder to his kids
    ii) some time in the sun for himself and Laisa...he may be 
dedicated, but no masochist.
c) the knowledge that any adult with wit comes to: I Do NOT Have All the 
Answers...or even that Everything Doesn't Necessarily HAVE Answers...or 
have to have answers.
