That *is* an interesting question!
I don't have a "major" skill to offer our hypothetical community, but I have
several minor ones where I could sort of fill in until the expert was
free...
I can cook, and have some experience of pickling/jam-making.
I grew up in a house with a solid fuel stove, so can tell other people how
to make it go (it hated me and went out when I did anything to it, so I
would definitely be the instructor for this!).
I can sew, both by hand and with a machine, so could help with clothing
everyone. And I know in theory how to darn, so could also deal with
mending. And I have basic (though extremely rusty) knitting skills.
I have basic DIY skills, so could probably help with the simpler bits of
constructing shelter/furniture/what-have-you.
I have first aid and rescue training, and am quite good at improvising first
aid supplies.
And because I read a lot, I could (like Gil is mentioned to do in "The
Mother of Winter") be a storyteller on the long dark evenings when people
are bored.
Until the sky falls on our heads...
Dorian.
