... and this is why I love the later Vorkosiverse books so much.
Memory, Komarr, and A Civil Campaign all have strong mystery elements.
 (e.g. "Who wounded Simon Illyan?", "Who blew up the soletta and
why?", "Who's trying to sabotage various characters' goals?" -- Lady
Donna's being my favorite 'mystery' here.)

I got hooked on Ian Rankin mysteries when I visited Edinburgh last
year.  Yes, they are formulaic, but I enjoy the characters very much.
