This might have made a major difference in a late professor's life. 
Karen Kossuth, a professor and advisor of mine at Pomona College, 
died rather than accept a titanium jaw after a surgery she declined. 
Chemo did not work well enough, but the idea of a metal jaw for a 
speaker or singer really bothered her.
