Tempered glass can shatter.  I accidentally once destroyed a Pyrex pie 
plate by putting it on a burner of an electric stove.  Glass went 
everywhere.  I was quite surprised.  Also, they warn you not to drill a 
hole in tempered aquarium glass to attach a pump, for the same reason. 
However, I doubt highly that ordinary flint glass used by a glass artist 
would behave like that, and I seriously doubt the artist would be able 
to predict when, either.
