I could probably manage off drugs, I did so for the first 26+ years of 
my life. But I'd be much harder to be around, alternating fits of 
anger/anxiety and depression. Also having a genuinely sound reason to be 
depressed (i.e. fall of civilization) on top of going cold turkey on 
meds might well be a suicide risk.
