It's been my experience (as a moderator of a couple of 2000+ communities
and a member of a dozen more) that those of us with chronic illnesses
are far more likely to find a social network from our computer chair. I
spent several years essentially in bed and I never felt cut off from
friends and support because I was able to reach out through the net. I
have a lot of great IRL friendships from those years :)
The chronically ill/chronic pain must be over represented in online
communities - we're a self selecting group :)
