beware waht you ask for ...
been re-reading legacy for ... no particular reason :) ... and noticing a
strong resemblance between the three protagonists. (that would put aral in
the pre-miles books). anyone else notice these things? and how much of it
is standard hero-ingredients? can anyone do a matching analasis of
heroines? or are they not cookie-cutter enough? further discussion
encouraged...
all of them are in very different social and technical levels from each
other. yet, they all have similarities.
all lack a certain loquaciousness.
all are able to quickly analize a threat situation and
- in a related trait, make quick decisions.
all prefer girl-friends with gumption, no faintnig lilies here!
- yet, they are all significantly older htan said girl-friend.
(maybe not ingrey? don't remember)
all come from very different social levesl than said girl-frined.
two have extremely bad reactions from family members about possible babies
- aral's father - you mean you're not going to abort it?
- dag' brother - you want your children to be servants of mine?
- if ingrey had any surviving relatives, they'd surely object to two
spirit tainted people making babies - you want to curse it before its even
conceived?
all have physical deficiencies - aral's ulcers, dag's hand, ingrey's
berserker-ness
- did aral ever make bad decisions in canon bec of his bleeding gut?
miles passing out from blood loss being rather memorable...
- the hand may have been replaced, but teh extreme depression left a
lasting effect.
- temporary insanity counts as a defect in a soldier if its at the level
that scares his own mates as much as the enemy
despite said physical deficiencies, they all have powerful presence.
- their girl-friends find them devestating handsome, but that's just a
twoo wuv thing :)
all have powerful reputations, and both trusted and distrusted by various of
their own powers-that be - distrust not necessarily meaning that said powers
are corrupt.
- its so nice that 'doesn't trust the hero' is not automatically 'evil
person'.
- it does quite often mean 'bad guy' in that hero's road is paved with
problems

planning to take a virtual road trip down the river -any time now-.
