On the other hand, every time a cure for diabetes is mentioned, it's a
cure for Type 1, not Type 2.  (stem cells etc.)

I had a friend who developed Type 1 at a late age due to his severe
pancreatits and subsequent removal of the pancreas and the
insulin-producing cells (Islets of Langerhans?)
