Fulminate of mercury, or some other chemical.  It's built in to the 
bullet.  They are little, bitty, tiny cartridges with a primer coating 
inside that is fitted into the ammo's cartridge.  When the firing pin 
hits it, BOOM!  Like nitro, or potassium tri-iodide, it explodes at the 
drop of a hat.
