one is not ever going to be 'ex-Butcher' of anywhere. one may be the
reformed butcher. one may be the butcher hiding from his crimes. one may
somehow become a 'forgiven butcher', although clearly not to everyone. one
may even be the butcher redeemed of his crimes, though i'm not sure how that
might happen.
one is not, however, an 'ex-Butcher'. as counter example, we have former
presidents of the country, but not ex-presidents. (unless they were kicked
out of office before retiring gracefully)

now wondering if 'former student' applies to drop-outs who didn't graduate?
or are htey ex-students? and if, like bill gates, one becomes very wealthy
after dropping out, does one (re)gain 'former student' status? must one
become an 'honorary graduate to be a 'former student'?
