yes, that's about what i meant.  its the difference between 'i quit' and 
'you're fired' or between leaving and being thrown out.

as to presidents - am not completely sure but i was given to understand that 
if the president of a country is tossed on his ear, (s)he is no longer 
entitled to the country's protective services adn other perks of being a 
former, as in retired, president.
