Paula makes a good point.

I've got a 110 GB portable hard drive that I use for such transfers and for
backup of my most critical stuff (which also has three other backups).  It
was about $110 last summer and they're cheaper now.

Plug it in, it's recognized, you use it.  It is a good idea to do a safely
remove or eject before disconnecting it.
