My preference is for a 2.5 inch portable USB drive. They fit any laptop
drive and are barely bigger than the drive. They can be formatted as
anything and are pretty cheap these days with 120G drives around NZ$100. 

They are a liitle larger than the flash drive but the amount you can carry
is fantastic. If you get one ensure it has power via USB rather than a
seperate power cable which defeats the ease of use.
