For the usual short errand runs [and all {lack of} height jokes
aside], I'm pretty minimalist, too. The main mantra is "comb, keys,
cards, cash"; although chapstick, timepiece, & a pen frequently get
added, they're strictly optional. I will just note that even women's
sweatpants have very nice pockets [when you can find them].

At cons, it's the conbag that makes me look like Quasimodo's mother,
with plastic bags [for putting books & cds in when dumping in the car
in the rain, or just stashing back in the room], book- and
filk-lists, pocket program, my abridged version thereof, etc. [I
used to pack a small sewing kit, tape, napkins, etc., but
stopped.] At least one old tubesock is essential. You can put your
can or bottle of beverage into it, so it doesn't "sweat" all over
papers, books, programs. It's also good for folding over your eyes
to block the sun for naps in cars. Safety pins go in the handle of
the bag. Recording equipment [including another pen & pad for
writing down what gets taped] goes in a small, padded cooler
bag. Deodorant & the next day's meds go in the bag for quick
grab-and-go the next morning.

All that before the books or cds even go in. Oh, well--frequent
drop-off trips to the room are good exercise. It's rather on the
brain just now, as I'm preparing to go to Conflikt
[http://www.conflikt.org/] early in the morning.

Hey, Megaera--I have a Barnes & Noble discount card, & am not afraid
to use it. ;)

Jerrie, off to print off the filk list & book list.
