I remember when I was selling and using 1 MHz Osborne I computers and my
friend's small company bought an actual Hard Disk Drive of their own for
their business's Radio Shack PC - 10 MB for a bit over $1,000.

Hard drives then were commonly only in the Data Center behind the glass wall
- the 300MB type with eight platters in their own stand-alone cabinet which
shook when the heads were busy accessing.

Half a year later, I was working at the State of Iowa central data
processing facility. We had a Mass Storage System with a wall of spindles
of 4" or 5" wide magnetic tape. The arm assembly would move across the 30'
x 8' wall of spindles, take one down and automatically mount it on one of
several read-mechanisms. We had one (1) Terabyte!

Now, I've almost got a terabyte in my PC.

What a great time for people who like techno-toys!
