That actually depends on where you find the tree. Live oaks are green all year 'round down South because they grow near reliable sources of water, like riverbanks and creeks. Magnolias up here in Toronto (and yes, we do have 'em, this area of Ontario is botanically speaking the northernmost extension of the "Carolinian forest") are definitely deciduous.
