[LMB] QOTD #6: Sharing Knife expectations

My major expectations were that the characters be rounded and that there be
no "stupid" mistakes.

I'm not sure if I've ever described that second criterion. If so, please
forgive me.

I do not require SF (to use the more inclusive term) in either to hold
precisely to current knowledge of belief in either science or fantasy.
However, I do require both consistency and that the author only make
mistakes/changes for the good of the story. In other words, if FTL is
required by the story, use it, but give us some sort of mechanism be it
wormholes, warp drive, or space folding. If people go interstellar in a
short period of time give them a way to do it even if it is just a few
words. If they communicate FTL, have them use an ansible, not a radio! The
Walter S. Tevis short story, "The Big Bounce," violates the second law of
thermodynamics, but it was needed for the story and it was obvious that the
author knew what he was doing.

I saw an obvious example if a "stupid" mistake in Terminator: The Sarah
Connor Chronicles. They stated that Sarah was bold type O- and her son,
John, was AB-. Not gonna happen! Also it was not necessary for the story. An
alternate story line that a new blood factor (mutation) occurred after the
Judgment day war and John inherited it from his father Kyle solves the
problem and is a better story line.

YMMV!

Lois has NEVER disappointed me.
