I discovered long ago that I dislike almost all the Merchant-Ivory movies, for reasons I will not
bore you with. (Basically, I found them pretentious.) Perhaps you could remove the 'almost' from
that sentence.

The funny thing is, for years, everyone assumed I would love them all because they have many of
the qualities I love in movies and novels: historical periods, beautiful cinematography,
articulate scripts, great settings and gay themes.

Pity, because I really wanted to like them, but you can't like something by trying.
