Hello my fellow LMB list members!
That includes any of you reading this -- digest readers, lurkers, and
archive readers -- this means you!
It has been exactly 2 weeks since I started this experiment of
questions of the day (QOTDs) on an every other day basis.
I will tentatively call it a success so far as I can tell.
I'll list my thoughts below, but I'd like now to ask all of you (yes,
every one of you reading this!) to let me know what you think of this
exercise.
Is it something you'd like to see continue? Something you'd like to
see end? Something you'd like to see more often (every day?) or less
often (three times a week MWF or twice a week TTh)?
Questions submitted and chosen in a different way? Somebody else to
organize it?
Whatever you guys think about it -- reply to this message onlist or
privately to me at tora.smulders at gmail.com. Feel free not to respond
if you already have. I'll take those already sent onlist and offlist
comments into consideration.
Basically, I'd like a consensus on where this should go. I feel I've
run it all myself as I please and I'd like a feel from the group
before going further.
I'll email tomorrow's question as scheduled and we'll see from the
replies where it goes from there.
My summation:
PROS:
1- new and interesting questions
2- quite well-thought out and insightful answers
3- some discussion of questions
4- some spin-off on topic discussion
5- much more overall on topic discussion on list
6- some more participation and/or interest from long-time lurkers, etc.
CONS:
1- increased list traffic? hard to keep up with?
2- not so many other threads -- the QOTDs and spin-off questions
dominate and there is less other on topic chat and possibly less off
topic as well
I was hoping for the Pros and am quite happy with how that turned out.
It's nice to see the Bujold list discuss Bujold's work as
intelligently as always, but more of it. However, I didn't mean for
the QOTDs to monopolize all the list's energy. But if the other
listmembers don't mind that, then I'm okay with it too. Because I'm
really enjoying the questions you all send in and the answers.
I'd like to see it continue, and I'm happy to run it indefinitely, if
you're all okay with that. Just collecting and emailing out the
questions is okay for me time-wise even when I'm very busy. Monday,
Wednesday, Friday might be a good schedule, perhaps? Plus, I wouldn't
mind thinking up some of my own questions to add in! ;-)
Thanks everyone,
Tora
